Tommy Gonzalez reports to work

Today is the first official day on the job for the city’s new manager.

Tommy Gonzalez’s first day included a legislative review meeting in advance of tomorrow’s city council meeting. He also answered questions for the news media, saying that it will be a top priority to develop a strategic plan, and he wants to be sure city projects are visible throughout the city.

Gonzalez replaces former city manager Joyce Wilson. He has previously been a city manager in Harlingen, and Irving and an assistant city manager in Lubbock and Dallas.

Gonzalez was unanimously approved for the job by city council in May.

He becomes the city’s second city manager since that form of government was approvedby voters in 2004.

Pilar Arias will tell us what else Gonzalez has on his agenda tonight in ABC-7’s evening newscasts.
