City Van Caught on Camera Reaching High Speeds

A city van was caught on a cellphone camera traveling about 90 plus miles per hour on Highway US 54.

The vehicle appears to be a Sun Metro van and was caught on a driver’s cellphone. The driver claimed he had to switch lanes to allow the van to pass he and other cars.

The public affairs coordinator with Sun Metro, Laura Cruz-Acosta, said the footage comes as a surprise because the company was recently awarded and recognized in regard to its safe driving.

“This news is a surprise to us because recently the lift was actually awarded a fairly impressive reward by MB transportation for safety,” Cruz-Acosta said.

Sun Metro riders ABC-7 spoke with said they believe the actions are unacceptable and unsafe.

“Remember safety comes first,” One rider said. “We plan on them to get us safely from point a to point b and I think it is irresponsible.”

Cruz-Acosta said the best solution to catch reckless drivers is to write down the bus number, location and time of day where the incident occurred and call Sun Metro immediately to assess the problem.
