Fireworks vendors in Otero County prepping for the 4th
With the Fourth of July just around the corner fireworks vendors are preparing for one of their busiest days of the year.
But how will a serious drought conditions and a ban on fireworks affect fans of fireworks?
For many families it’s a tradition to go out and pop fireworks on the Fourth of July and with the recent ban it might leave many wondering if there’s anywhere they can go to pop fireworks.
There is one place about 45 minutes from El Paso where you can buy and sell all the pyrotechnics you usually expect to light off on the holiday.
“We are trying to stock up shelves, making sure we got enough people to cover (all the customers because the holiday is)going to land on a Friday this year(and) we have a big shipment coming in,” said Luis Camacho, manager of Alamo Fireworks.
How will fireworks businesses fare with a ban on fireworks in the city, throughout the county and a limited ban in Las Cruces.
“Last year was probably one of the busiest year since I’ve been out here,” said Camacho.
Camacho told ABC-7 since the bans began fireworks fanatics have flooded his store in Otero County.
The shop is off U.S. 54 just past the state line.
In Otero County, you can sell and light off any kind of fireworks, Camacho said.
“I mean we got aerials, artillery shells, bottle rockets stuff like that that people like,” said Camacho.
The fireworks shop also has about three acres which makes it easier for people to buy and enjoy fireworks on the spot.
“I think it’s a good deal because they don’t have to risk going anywhere else and it’s safer to come and enjoy themselves out here and they don’t have to clean up the mess afterwards,” said Camacho.
Camacho wants people to know that in Otero County, you can celebrate Independence Day the way many have traditionally celebrated in years past.
“Just come enjoy yourselves out here. The sky lights up here for the fourth of July,” said Camacho.
If you’re not a fan of popping fireworks but like the shows there’s plenty of places that will have fireworks displays.
Music under the Stars, Western Playland and Wet and Wild will be having fireworks shows.
In Las Cruces the Field of Dreams and the Mercado de Mesilla will also be having fireworks displays as well.
