U.S. Marshals apprehend suspect in Fabens robbery and shooting

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- On Wednesday, U.S. Marshals found and apprehended a man suspected of a robbery and shooting in Fabens, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

EPCSO said the robbery happened Jan. 28 just after 4:45 a.m. at a home on Fargrove Street. Deputies found a male victim with a gunshot wound on his abdomen. He went to the hospital for treatment.

The sheriff's office said multiple people forcibly entered the home, physically assaulted the victim, discharged a firearm and sole $800. The suspects left the scene.

Detectives identified 22-year-old Ruben David Ramirez as one of the suspects in the robbery. The sheriff's office issued two aggravated robbery warrants.

According to the sheriff's office, Ramirez was inside a vehicle during the shooting in Fabens and left the scene. He declined to provide a statement to investigators.

The U.S. Marshals Service found and apprehended Ramirez on a federal warrant for felon in possession of a firearm and the two warrants issued by EPCSO.

The sheriff's office said deputies previously arrested Ramirez for evading arrest or detention and possession of a controlled substance. He was later released on bond.
