MOVE Planners Want Projects for Annual UTEP Event

Organizers of UTEP’s 2013 Project MOVE expect another flood of University volunteers to participate in service projects that benefit the community next spring, so they are asking leaders of the area’s nonprofit organizations to suggest jobs that will have a positive impact on the community.

The 4th annual event that gets the Miner Nation “Working Together, Serving El Paso” is scheduled for March 9.

Last year saw more than 1,000 UTEP students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends work at 60 community sites. They cleaned, painted, landscaped, gardened, built beds, created children’s blankets and assisted in home and playground repairs. The deadline to submit an activity for Project MOVE (Miner Opportunities for Volunteer Experiences) is Friday, Feb. 1. Approved projects will be announced Feb. 15.

The program’s goal is to give back to the community and allow participants to experience the importance of service, leadership and civic engagement.

“Project MOVE is a wonderful opportunity for the UTEP and greater El Paso communities to build and enhance partnerships in the spirit of service,” said Ryan Holmes, associate dean of students and event coordinator. “It is hard to think of a better way for students, faculty, staff, and other community members to support and love the city we call home.”
