El Paso Exploreum Museum moving temporarily because of construction mistake

The El Paso Exploreum, which opened this past weekend, will be moving temporarily.

It will be closed until Feb. 9 when the relocation to the former Lynx Exhibits building, 300 W. San Antonio, is complete.

“The relocation is needed to give the museum’s founders time to replace several interior walls which contractors mistakenly built with wooden studs rather than with metal studs as required by city ordinance,” Exploreum officials said in a statement.

“We were so warmly received by the community that we want to continue the enthusiasm for the Exploreum,” said Laurie Paternoster, museum co-founder. “We are saddened that our museum was not 100 percent ready, but are making every effort to make sure the new building is perfect.”

Paternoster said visitors going to the Exploreum at Lynx Exhibits will have an extra treat – a free simulator experience.

With the Feb. 9 reopening, normal hours of operation resume: Mondays through Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays noon until 6 p.m, with the last admission is an hour before closing.
