Storms sweep through the Borderland

The clouds moved in over the city making for a gloomy day.

Thunderstorms created wet roads and hazardous driving conditions.
A semi jackknifed on I-10 near Redd Road. It caused a traffic back up for miles.

Businesses and residents in Canutillo seemed prepared.

Homeowners laced their front yards with sand bags.

Roads on the west side looked like streams, leaving some people with some wet socks.

“Our shoes are full of water. We love getting wet,” said young Garrison Tate.

Others making last-minute buys.

“We stopped at Walgreens and bought our umbrellas and we’re on our way home,” said Rosie Tate.

But even under cover residents couldn’t get enough rain.

“It’s beautiful. I wish El Paso was always like this, it’s gorgeous,” said Tate.

In downtown the rain made for wet roads.

Plastic ponchos were the fashion statement of the day for many.

On the east side, Friday’s showers kept drivers at a crawl and pedestrians running for cover.

Parents pulled out umbrellas before rushing their kids to school.

Some kiddos found their own way to keep dry using backpacks to cover their heads.

In the Lower Valley roads flooded and business owners brought out pumps to keep their parking lots dry.

Once the rain passed, people came out of their homes to enjoy the cool weather El Paso hadn’t seen for quite some time.

“Everything is just so wet but I like it, I love the smell of rain,” said Demi Torres.

“It’s beautiful weather today. It gives me an opportunity to take the kids out to play and get them ready for school,” said David Allen.
