Change of command ceremony marks return of Maj. Gen. Twitty to Fort Bliss, 1st Armored Division

Fort Bliss is familiar territory for Maj. Gen. Stephen M. Twitty.

He’s been stationed here twice before.

Tuesday morning Fort Bliss held a change of command ceremony where Twitty took over as commanding general for the post and the 1st Armored Division.

“It feels great to be back here,” Twitty told the media. “I look forward to training this division and getting it ready for combat. I also look forward to focusing on the three priorities that I talked about (in my speech), particularly our continued engagement with the community. That’s very important to me. (Also,) maintaining this equipment. Of course we’re in an armored division so we must have our firepower ready to move out at a moment’s notice. I look forward to it.”

Before his new assignment, Twitty was deputy chief of staff at U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg.

From September 2010 through March 2012, he served asthe deputy commanding general of operations for the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss.
