Public alert system test to take place Thursday

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Pasoans can expect multiple public warning systems to go off Thursday as part of a statewide emergency alert systems test, the city said. It will take place from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

During the test, alerts will be clearly labeled: "TEST – This is a public service message." The city wants to remind residents this is only a test and not an actual emergency.

According to the city, the test includes landline notifications, Wireless Emergency Alerts, the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, television and radio alerts.

The test helps confirm systems' functionality, emergency readiness and community preparedness, the city said.
