Man wanted in California post office robberies arrested in Dona Ana County
Doa Ana County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man March 4 who was wanted on charges of federal postal theft following a lengthy investigation in Los Angeles County.
Jose Manuel Guerra, 44, was arrested early March 4 in the 2000 block of Arrellano in Anthony, New Mexico.
According to federal agents with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Los Angeles Division Violent Crimes Team, Guerra had felony warrants that stemmed from allegations that he burglarized several post offices in California.
According to law enforcement officers, Guerra had in his possession several stolen checks, debit cards and credit cards.
“The Postal Inspection Service has hunted those who steal mail for hundreds of years,” said Los Angeles Postal Inspector in charge B. Bernard Ferguson. “The ability to use the mail in a safe and secure manner is at the core of the Postal Inspection Service’s mission.”
Guerra was taken into custody by federal agents and he is expected to be extradited back to southern California.
The charges against him include burglary of a post office, aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit bank fraud.
