El Paso Police ID man in wheelchair struck, killed by vehicle on Saturday

El Paso Police’s Special Traffic Investigations believe that alcohol was a factor on the part of a man in a wheelchair who was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday night.

Police were called out to a traffic collision at Paisano and Eucalyptus just before 10 p.m. Saturday where they learned that 69-year-old Ignazio Borjas Soto was operating a wheelchair.

He attempted to cross Paisano against the pedestrian control device when a Mitsubishi Galant traveling east on Paisano with a green light hit Soto and his wheelchair, which were in the roadway.

Soto was transported to University Medical Center and died from the injuries.

Police say they believe alcohol on the part of Soto was a contributing factor in the collision.

This is the 29 th traffic fatality this year.
