Chihuahuas to mark UTEP’s centennial celebration with special Don Haskins bobblehead
Baseball fans will have a chance to take home a small version of an El Paso legend.
The El Paso Chihuahuas and The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) have partnered to mark UTEP’s Centennial Celebration on Thursday, August 28 with a special Don Haskins bobblehead giveaway.
The bobblehead will be given to the first 2,000 fans with paid entry.
“As we near the end of our inaugural season, it is only fitting that we partner with UTEP who has a long-standing tradition in the community,” said General Manager Brad Taylor. “We are excited to commemorate the event by remembering the most iconic figures in UTEP history, Hall of Fame coach Don Haskins.”
The bobblehead shows a young Haskins holding a rolled up playbook and wearing an orange blazer to represent UTEP’s colors.
Haskins is not wearing a tie – just like he always took off his clip-on tie at the start of each game.
The game will also feature a short introduction of UTEP dignitaries and ardent St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and UTEP president, Diana Natalicio, will throw out the first pitch.
“We are excited to celebrate The University of Texas at El Paso’s Centennial with UTEP alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends while cheering for the Chihuahuas. We look forward to seeing you at the ballgame,” President Natalicio said.
Gates open at 6 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. when the Chihuahuas take on the Salt Lake Bees (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim).
Fans can purchase tickets at either of the Chihuahuas box offices, located at Durango and Santa Fe Streets or they can purchase tickets online at EPChihuhas.com.
Alumni, faculty, staff and students who are interested in attending the celebration can contact the UTEP Office of Alumni Relations for more information at (915) 747-8600. For special group rates, contact the Chihuahuas at (915) 242-2038.
