Robert Wagner visits Plaza Classic film festival
The Plaza classic film festival is in full swing and the Sun City has a special guest over the weekend.
Actor Robert Wagner is in town promoting his movies and a recent book he wrote.
“I always wanted to be in the movies from the time I was a young kid and to have a career that I’ve had and been able to sustain this long, I’m very fortunate and very blessed,” said Wagner.
Wagner told ABC-7 he’s gotten to work with some of the greatest actors and been on movie sets around the world.
A group of people even traveled to El Paso from Germany just to get a shot at seeing the golden age actor speak at the Plaza.
Wagner said he’s always had a strong following in Europe.
“I was in a little bistro in France, in a small little town way outside of Paris and I looked up and there were about 20 kids outside(looking in),” said Wagner
Although Wagner was widely known for his roles in “It Takes a Thief” and “Hart to Hart” he said the role in the the movie “Austin Powers” introduced him to a new generation.
“It opened up a whole new fan base for me. It just opened a new group of people, younger people would come up to me all the time,” said Wagner.
Even though he got to work with great comedians he tells ABC-7 it didn’t come easy for him.
“You really had to be on your mark doing that kind of comedy. Comedy is a very interesting thing to play and that particular kind of comedy is very difficult,” said Wagner
ABC-7 asked Wagner how he felt about El Paso having a classic film festival and he said it’s essential to keep showing movies from the “golden age” for future film fans.
“Anytime that you can be able to make people aware of some of these great films it’s always exciting and this festival it is a classic, it really is a classic,” said Wagner.
