Tests reveal 4 confirmed Tuberculosis cases among Canutillo High School students and staff

Health officials have completed the testing of 145 students and teachers for tuberculosis, confirming four cases at Canutillo High School.

The findings of the test results were made public by officials on Thursday afternoon.

The tests were ordered last month after public health experts identified as many as 165 people “who may have been exposed to a person at the school who was diagnosed with active TB disease.”

The El Paso Department of Public Health said its investigation into the TB outbreak was ongoing. It was unclear whether additional testing would take place.

In a statement to ABC-7, a spokesperson for the Canutillo Independent School District sought to “reassure our community that the campus is safe and staff and students are not at risk of exposure to Tuberculosis (TB) related to this investigation.”
