Cielo Vista tennis court construction delayed
The Cielo Vista tennis courts were torn up for re-pavement in June with an expected completion date of August. It is now projected to be completed by mid-November.
The 5 month delay has upset retired tennis coach, Annie Moncada, and her students.
“We provide a safe haven for after school little people,” Moncada said. “And so now they cant even do that because there is nothing here for them to come to.”
But Martin Bartlett, a spokesman for the city of engineering management, said the construction team ran into some unexpected delays.
“They uncovered some unexpected utility lines below the tennis court,” Bartlett said. “There have also been some troubles with the supplier, and getting some of the pieces and parts needed to complete the project. Given all of that, we believe this project is going to be completed by the middle of next month, by the middle of November.”
The majority of parts that were not available was the chain link fence, and poles needed to keep the fence standing.
Moncada said she hopes the expected completion date is accurate, because she wants to provide a safe place for students after school once again.
“It’s a place where the kids can come and the parents know they will be safe,” Moncada said. “And that is my main concern, that they be safe.”
