11.7.13 steve mcqueen juarez anniversary

Steve McQueen, known as the ultimate anti-hero in Hollywood, died on this day in 1980 in Ciudad Juarez while seeking treatment for cancer.

An x-ray in 1979 showed he had a tumor in his right lung. Doctors said the cancer was due to asbestos exposure.

McQueen, who was 50 when he died, starred in such classic films as The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape and Bullitt.

An early 70s film, The Getaway was even filmed in El Paso and also starred Ali MacGraw.

With his rugged good looks and unmatched charisma men wanted to be him and women wanted to date him.
