U.S. Post Office locations will be closed and there will not be any home delivery except for Express Mail.

Mesilla Veterans Day: Nov. 11, 2014. A ceremony honoring the town’s veterans is 11 a.m. at Parque de los Veteranos, Avenida de Mesilla and Calle del Norte in Mesilla. Information: (575) 524-3262, ext. 116.

Veterans Memorial Park “Days of Valor” public art dedication: Nov. 11, 2014.

The City of El Paso Museums & Cultural Affairs Department’s Public Art Program is excited to announce the newest addition to the City’s collection of public art. The Public Art Program and District 4 Representative, Carl L. Robinson cordially invite the public to attend the dedication ceremony forDays of Valor,a sculpture by local artist, Jimmie Bemont onNovember 11 th , at 11:00 a.m. atVeteransMemorial Park in Northeast El Paso.

The dedication will feature dignitaries City Manager Tommy Gonzalez, Congressman Beto O’Rourke,District 4 City Representative Carl L. Robinson and more. The site is located on the corner of Rushing Road and Salem Drive and dedication will commence following the NortheastVeteransDayParadeconclusion on park grounds.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

VeteransPark is dedicated to both living and deceasedveterans, yet was created without an existing memorial honoring El PasoVeteransof Foreign Wars. In 2012, the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department’s Public Art Program initiated a project to properly memorialize El Paso’sveteransand their service to El Paso and our country. MCAD worked closely with District 4 Representative Carl L. Robinson, his staff and members of nearby VFW Cunningham Post 8550. The project scope required that local sculptor Jimmie Bemont pay homage to El Paso’sveterans, celebrate the unique identity of Northeast El Paso and engage with the community.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jimmie Bemont is an award-winning El Paso artist that specializes in wildlife and western bronze sculpture. Bemont’s work is in private and public collections in Germany, Japan, and Mexico and throughout the United States. He is active in the local arts community and is a past board member of the El Paso Art Association. Bemont’s most famous work is the popular Buffalo Soldier Monument at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Veterans Day Gala. Nov. 13, 2014. El Paso Area Veterans Organizations’ annual Veterans Day Gala dinner is 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Centennial Club, 1119 Sgt. E. Churchill, at East Fort Bliss. The celebration will honor veterans from various wars and conflicts. This year’s theme is “Veterans Honoring Veterans.” Dress code is coat and tie for civilians and Army Service Uniform for the military. The public is encouraged to attend. Tickets: $30 ($300 table for 10). Information: 568-4601 or 568-2497.
