Single-vehicle crash on U.S. 54

One person is in the hospital with serious injuries after a single-vehicle crash in central El Paso early Sunday morning.

Police have released the name of the man in the crash, 34 year old Jorge Alvarez of Sunland Park New Mexico.

The crash happened on southbound U.S. highway 54 before the Trowbridge on ramp.

ABC-7 was told the car hit a concrete column underneath the Trowbridge on ramp. The victim was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Alvarez was last reported to be in critical condition with life threatening injuries. Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash, and it is still unknown if alcohol played a role.
