Man authorities allege beat and raped woman arrested 17 years later at border crossing

A man who allegedly beat and raped an Anthony, New Mexico woman in 1997 was arrested Nov. 3 at the Santa Teresa Port of Entry.

Jorge Ramos was arraigned on Monday in the Third Judicial District Court with a secured bond set at $100,000.

Ramos’ trial date is pending.

A bench warrant was issued for Ramos in 1997 in connection with the beating and rape of the Anthony woman.

Jesus A. Aguirre, his alleged accomplice, in July 1998 was prosecuted and sentenced to 12 years in prison with an enhancement of three years due to the brutality of the crime

At about 11 p.m. on June 21, 1997, police were sent to a home on Ruth Street in Anthony on a report of a victim who was severely beaten and raped behind her home.

The victim’s clothing was ripped off, her hair covered in dirt, weeds and blood. She also had the imprint of a shoe on her forehead.
