New look for EPPD patrol units

The El Paso Police Department is changing the look of its fleet of patrol units.

A viewer sent ABC-7 a photo of the new black and white model, with new logo.

For years, officers have driven around in all white vehicles with royal blue stripes, accompanied with a sun logo that represents El Paso’s nickname, the ‘Sun City’.

ABC-7 reached out to EPPD and Sergeant Chris Mears responded with a statement that reads:

“We are not ready to publicly discuss this yet, as the new cars are not ready to be put in service. When they are, we will host a media event to showcase the vehicles and inform the public. This will be done on our schedule based on when the vehicles are ready to be put into service.”

Residents ABC-7 spoke with had mixed feelings.

“I would like to know how much it’s costing the taxpayer,” said one woman.

“Better than the old ones,” said one UTEP student.

“Our police protect us and I think that’s a very good thing, and I like them,” said another woman.
