Drive-by shooting leaves one man dead in El Paso’s Lower Valley

Police say shortly after 1 a.m., friends took two victims to a nearby hospital where one man died and another was being treated for gunshot wounds.

“At about 1:18 this morning officers responded to the 300 hundred block of Marisol Street,”said El Paso police spokesman Mike Baranyay.

When police arrived, “They did find that two victims were transported by friends to Del Sol Medical Center,” said Baranyay.

One victim police describe as a 38-year old man died at the hospital from the gunshot wounds.

“The other victim a 24-year-old male is currently being treated for a gunshot wound but is expected to survive,” Baranyay told ABC-7.

Neighbors who didn’t want to be identified tell ABC-7 they heard four gunshots early Saturday morning but they never suspected it would be a drive-by shooting that took the life of someone on their street.

They tell ABC-7 the neighborhood has been quiet for many years and they’ve never seen a problem with shootings or gangs.

“We are not discounting the fact that it could be gang related but at this point it’s a little too early in the investigation,” said Baranyay.

ABC-7’s Round the Clock crews arrived at Del Sol Medical center shortly after the victims arrived.

Police examined the vehicle that brought the victims to the hospital, Baranyay told ABC-7.

Police tell ABC-7 this is still an open investigation.
