UTEP’s McKenzie Moore leads Miners to win over weekend, is suspended for 1 game by coach

It was a good and bad Saturday for UTEP’s junior guard McKenzie Moore.

He led the Miners with 14 points and seven rebounds in a 69-51 win Saturday over Sacramento State at the Don Haskins Center.

Moore also was perfect from the free throw line, going 10 for 10.

But Coach Tim Floyd thinks Moore needs to learn a lesson.

“I didn’t like his actions tonight on the floor as we pulled him out of the game,” Floyd said in the post-game news conference. “I think he needs to learn to handle the little bit of success that he has had. He needs to learn to defer at times and be a better teammate. We’ll utilize this next ballgame to see if we can watch some growth with him as a Miner and understand the appreciation of wearing a Miner uniform.”

Moore was named to the 2013 Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll (minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average) and also chosen to the 2013 C-USA Men’s Basketball All-Academic Team.

The Miners won’t play again until Monday, Dec. 16, because of finals. They will host New Orleans at the Don Haskins for that game.
