Man charged with intoxication manslaughter in death of 13-year-old boy in traffic collision
Jan. 20 Update: El Paso Police have booked the driver they say is responsible for the death of 13-year-old Pablo Hernandez.
Police say that at about 4:26 p.m. on Jan. 18, Julian Tapia, 32, of San Elizario, was driving a Ford F150 in the 9300 block of North Loop when his truck struck the vehicle Pablo was traveling in.
Pablo and a 15-year-old girl were transported to hospital where Pablo died from his injuries.
Tapia had been receiving treatment at Del Sol Medical Treatment for injuries he sustained in the crash. Upon his release from the hospital Sunday evening he was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter.
He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a bond set at $100,000. Police say additional charges may be filed against Tapia.
Jan. 19 Story: El Paso Police say the boy killed by a suspected drunk driver yesterday was 13-year-old Pablo Hernandez.
Patricia Hernandez, 40, was driving with her son and daughter on the North Loop when their suburban was hit from behind by a 2009 Ford F-150.
The truck was driven by a 32-year-old man who has not been identified. Police say charges are still pending against the man and his name will not be released until he is booked.
The 15-year-old girl who was also in the back of the suburban along with her brother, is in critical condition.
Neither of the children were wearing seat belts.
