Border Patrol agents arrest convicted child sex offender
On Sunday, Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Las Cruces Border Patrol Station arrested a man previously convicted of various sex offenses with a child and who had served two years of a three year prison sentence in Los Angeles, Calif.
At 7 p.m. Sunday, Border Patrol agents were conducting immigration inspections onboard a Greyhound passenger bus at the I-10 checkpoint when they encountered Fernando Efrain, a Honduran citizen.
During questioning, Efrain voluntarily admitted to being in the U.S. illegally and was traveling to Van Nuys, Calif. Efrain was taken into custody and his biometric information was submitted into the Integrated Automated Identification System (IAFIS).
That’s when agents learned of his criminal history that included Lewd and Lascivious Conduct with a Child and Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child in 2002. Further investigation also revealed that Efrain had been previously deported from the U.S.
Efrain was booked into the Otero County Prison Facility for his illegal re-entry into the U.S. and will subsequently be deported to his country of origin.
