Human remains found near Vado

Doa Ana County Sheriff’s investigators are piecing together some articles of clothing and several missing-persons reports in hopes of identifying skeletal remains that were found March 22 east of Vado.

A hiker who was in the desert near Bishop’s Cap Friday evening told investigators he found what appeared to be skeletal remains. Investigators were called to the area and confirmed the bones were human.
According to a report, a belt buckle and a shoe were found near the remains. No other information was immediately available.

Anyone who might be able to identify the buckle, or has information on anyone who might have gone missing in that area of Doa Ana County is asked to call the Doa Ana County Sheriff’s Department at (575) 525-8897 or Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
