Major General Stephen Twitty’s Statement
At approximately 3:10 p.m., we received reports of an active shooter at the El Paso Veterans Affairs clinic at Ft. Bliss.
The VA immediately enacted their response plan for all personnel to shelter in place.
The Ft. Bliss Military police, and the El Paso and federal law enforcement responded immediately.
Authorities began a detailed search of the clinic.
The alleged shooter is dead and the one casualty is deceased. All other VA patients and staff are safe.
This is in active crime scene and the shooting is under investigation. The FBI has the lead in the investigation with the army’s CID in support.
Everything is under control and there is no immediate threat to Fort Bliss and local community.
Additional information will be released at the appropriate time.
I want to thank the El Paso and federal law enforcement agencies who immediately responded to the VA clinic and aided our military police in securing and clearing the clinic.
I also want to offer my prayers to the victim and his family.
