Bill that could provide millions of dollars to UTEP, Texas Tech passes committee in possible symbolic vote

In what appears to be a symbolic vote — the Texas House appropriations committee passed a bill that would give UTEP $88 million and the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center nearly $80 million.

The money would go towards construction. El Paso State Rep. Marisa Marquez is on that committee.

The bill is not on the agenda for the special session but it’s a way to encourage Gov. Rick Perry to include it.

In May a similar bill died in the regular session because of a dispute between the house and senate.
