UTEP announces policies and procedures for 2013 football season

The UTEP football team will kick off the Sean Kugler era on Saturday, Sept. 7 against long-time rival New Mexico in the Sun Bowl.

The Miners will play five home games in 2013, also hosting UTSA (Sept. 21), La Tech (Oct. 5), Tulsa (Oct. 12) and FIU (Nov. 16).

Below is a list of important information all fans should know leading into the 2013 campaign.

Game Times

The New Mexico (Sept. 7), UTSA (Sept. 21) and FIU (Nov. 16) games will all kick off at 6 p.m. MT. The La Tech game (Oct. 5) will kick off at 5:30 MT. The start time for the Tulsa game (Oct. 12) will be announced at a later date.

Tickets

Season tickets are on sale now by calling (915) 747-6150 or visiting Brumbelow Building Room 109. Ticket prices start at just $50 and family packs (two adults/two children ages 3-12) are available for $165. Individual game tickets, starting at $12, will go on sale Monday, Aug. 26 at the University Ticket Center, (915) 747-5234. The University Ticket Center is located at 2901 North Mesa Street (next to the Don Haskins Center). The UTEP Miner Store on the eastside will also be selling individual game tickets starting on Aug. 26. The UTEP Miner Store is located at 1452 Zaragoza Suite 500-A.

Group Tickets

Group tickets are on sale now. Businesses or organizations wishing to purchase blocks of tickets should call (915) 747-7450.

Student Tickets

UTEP students can sign up for tickets through www.sportslottery.utep.edu beginning on Friday, Aug. 16. Students can register for all five home games, then gain access to Sun Bowl Stadium by swiping their Miner Gold Card on game day.

Game Day Themes

The UTSA game (Sept. 21) will mark the 50th Anniversary of Sun Bowl Stadium with special surprises in store for fans. The La Tech game (Oct. 5) is Homecoming. The Tulsa game (Oct. 12) is Take a Kid to the Game Day. The FIU game (Nov. 16) is Senior Night and Military Night.

50 Years of Sun Bowl Stadium

GECU is sponsoring the 50th Anniversary of Sun Bowl Stadium celebration. The Sun Bowl 50th Anniversary logo will be unveiled on Monday, Sept. 2. A reunion of the 1963 team will take place at the UTSA game on Sept. 21.

Free Parking Lots

Free parking is available in the following lots: R5 (formerly the Rudolph lot, off of Mesa Street), S3 & S4 (south of Sun Bowl stadium), and P1, P2, P3 & P4 (on Schuster Avenue).

RV Parking

RV parking is available in the R5 lot (formerly the Rudolph lot) off the Sun Bowl Drive entrance. RV parking is available as space permits. The lot opens at 5 p.m. the day before the game and patrons must vacate the lot no later than noon the day after the game. Call (915) 747-6150 to get your season pass.

ADA Parking

ADA parking is located in the R6 lot off of Sun Bowl Drive by the Helen of Troy Softball Complex. Shuttles will be available from the parking area to the press box for patrons with ADA tickets in sections 1-5. Shuttles will also be available from the parking area to the North Sun Bowl entrance for patrons with ADA tickets in sections 13 & 15. Both shuttles start running two hours before kickoff and resume operation at the end of the third quarter until all patrons are serviced.

South Shuttle

Please note the south shuttle from Schuster Street is no longer operational.

Premium Parking

Fans can purchase a reserved parking spot for the 2013 season and eliminate the hassle of finding a space on game day. Monies raised benefit the cost of UTEP student-athlete scholarships. Contact the Miner Athletic Club for more information; call (915) 747-8759 or visit www.minerathleticclub.com.

Miner Alley

The UTEP band will begin its march through Miner Alley, creating an electric pregame atmosphere and the perfect spot for fans and students to convene before the game. Located between the UTEP Book Store and the parking garage off of Sun Bowl Drive, Miner Alley opens at 2 p.m. on game day. Tailgating is encouraged and food vendors will also be on site.

Tailgating

Tailgating is permitted on outer campus lots beginning at 8 a.m. on game day. Tailgating is permitted on inner campus starting at 2 p.m. Inner campus tailgating space is limited due to construction on campus. For more information please visit www.tailgating.utep.edu.

Sun Metro Shuttle

Sun Metro is offering six Park and Ride locations and direct bus service to all UTEP football home games. Locations are as follows: Mission Valley Transfer Center (9065 Alameda Ave.), Westside Transfer Center (7535 Remcon Circle), Union Plaza Transit Terminal (400 W. San Antonio), Northeast Transit Terminal (9348 Dyer Street), Eastside Transit Terminal (1165 Sunmount Drive) and Edgemere (near R.C. Poe). Team Benches

The UTEP and visiting team benches will be switching sides for the 2013 season. The UTEP bench will be located at the West (press box) side of the stadium. The visiting team bench will be located at the East side of the stadium.

Complimentary Game Program

Football game programs are free of charge for the 2013 season and will be distributed as fans enter the stadium. Special coupons, valid for discounts at local businesses, are a part of the game program. Supplies are limited so fans should arrive early to secure their copy.

Larry K. Durham Center Pregame Hospitality

Pregame hospitality is available in the Durham Center for every home football game beginning one and a half hours before kickoff. Access is available for Circle of Champions members who contribute at the required level for this benefit. The reception includes a full meal and complimentary bar. Glory Field

Fans can tailgate in style with their friends, family or business associates on Glory Field. Located just north of the stadium, this fenced-in, grass field is the ideal place for a tailgate in a family friendly environment. One tent holds up to 100 people, and includes tables and chairs. Larger groups can also be accommodated. Clients may use Sodexho Food Service or one of the Miner Athletic Club’s recommended caterers. No grills are allowed on the practice field and alcohol must be purchased through Sodexho. MAC Tent

Join the Miner Athletic Club for a tailgate and meal prior to each home football game at the MAC Tent on Glory Field. Single game and season passes are available and each includes a great meal, drinks, special giveaways and pregame atmosphere. Prices are $60 (adult season pass), $15 (child season pass), $20 (adult single date) and $5 (child single date). Coach Kugler Radio & TV Shows

Coach Sean Kugler’s radio show will air weekly, predominantly on Wednesdays on The Fox, KOFX 92.3 FM. Fans are invited to attend the shows which will be at Corner Tavern & Grill, 2700 North Mesa at Cincinnati on the west side and at Border City Ale House, 1506 Lee Trevino on the east side. All shows will begin at 7 p.m. Dates of the Corner Tavern & Grill shows are Aug. 28, Sept. 4, Sept. 11, Sept. 18, Oct. 2, Oct. 9, Oct. 30, Nov. 6, Nov. 13, Nov. 20 and Dec. 4. Dates of the Border City Ale House shows are Sept. 25, Oct. 23 and Nov. 26. Inside UTEP Football With Sean Kugler airs on Time Warner Sports Channel 24 and the El Paso/Las Cruces CW weekly during the season. The El Paso/Las Cruces CW will carry the show on Fridays at 9:30 p.m. beginning on Sept. 6. The CW is available on over-the-air Channel 7.2, DirecTV Channel 8, Dish Network Channel 17, Time Warner Cable Channel 13 & digital 876 and Comcast 14 in Las Cruces. The schedule on Time Warner Sports Channel 24 will be announced at a later date via utepathletics.com.
