City says, again, that there is not a push to build international bridge at Yarbrough

The City wants to quell a controversial topic once and for all.

City officials say there is no push to build an international port of entry at Yarbrough.

“And we all know and we need to admit that a lot of the citizenship doesn’t trust what we are doing here,” City Rep. Lily Limon said.

Limon brought up the issue because she says residents are alarmed after they saw construction crews working near Yarbrough.

The City says that has nothing to do with a port of entry but construction of a park pond near Shawver Park and work on the Border Highway.

“There is no way this can be accelerated without having the presidential permit approved, environmental clearance and more importantly the funding and the support from the City,” said Michael Medina of the Metropolitan Planning Organization.

“The community will be very happy to hear once and for all that it is not something that will be looming out there,” Limon said.

An international bridge between Ysleta and the Bridge of the Americas is a potential project for 2040 but City Manager Joyce Wilson said they’ll remove it from even that Metropolitan Planning Organization plan.
