Conference welcomes leaders from both sides of the border
The 2014 Border Conference is underway in El Paso at the Judson F. Williams Convention Center downtown.
It is co-hosted by Congressman Beto O’Rourke, who will open the conference alongside State Senator Jose Rodriguez.
The conference will focus on why the border matters.
This year’s convention features a bi-partisan congressional delegation from the northern and southern border.
Officials will share their knowledge on how they make the most of our strategic position as the world’s largest binational community.
Issues that will be discussed: trade, commerce, mobility and education.
The office of Congressman O’Rourke stated between the U.S. and Mexico there is an estimated $90 billion in trade, twenty percent of it comes through El Paso ports of entry.
Speakers scheduled to address the conference include: Congressman Joaquin Castro, Chihuahua Governor Cesar Duarte, County Judge Veronica Escobar, Congressman Henry Cuellar, and the mayors of El Paso, Juarez and Las Cruces.
Opening remarks are scheduled to begin at 10a.m. and ends at 5:30p.m.
