Multiple cars submerged due to flooding

Water rescue units assisted three individuals at Bywood and Fierro.

The El Paso Fire Department water rescue team was dispatched Wednesday Sept. 17 at around 9 p.m. to a water reservoir due to reports or three stranded people on partially submerged vehicles.

Crews found a 40-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man standing on top of the submerged vehicle. The crews were able to rescue the passengers and the third passenger was found at a nearby residence.

Firefighters discovered the woman left the vehicle and swam to the west bank of the reservoir. Witnesses at the scene of the incident could not believe what they saw.

“I’ve lived here for almost 11 years and we’ve had flooding, but nothing close to this,” one witness said. “Nothing close to this.

All three of the passengers were rescued and only had minor injuries.
