Update: Las Cruces Police identify man sought in Thursday shooting

Las Cruces Police have identified the man sought in Thursday night’s shooting on Karen Avenue as 17-year-old Gustavo Angel Alvarado.

Alvarado’s whereabouts are unknown but Las Cruces Police and surrounding agencies are actively looking for him.

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps lead to his capture.

The victim in Thursday’s shooting has been identified as 34-year-old Pete Limon who remains in critical condition at University Medical Center of El Paso.

Limon was shot at least once in his abdomen with a shotgun. Police found and recovered a shotgun in the vicinity of Thursday evening’s shooting.

At around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, Las Cruces Police were sent to the report of a gunshot victim on the 300 block of Karen Avenue. Officers located Limon who was subsequently airlifted to UMC.

Detectives learned that Limon and a neighbor were in some type of altercation that was apparently witnessed by Alvarado.

Police say that at some point, Alvarado armed himself with a shotgun and confronted Limon just outside a mobile home.

The two exchanged words before Alvarado allegedly fired at least one round at Limon.

Alvarado then fled the area on foot, apparently disposing the shotgun as he ran away.

Limon and Alvarado both reside in the same mobile home park.

Alvarado is Hispanic, approximately 5-feet-6-inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a plaid shirt.
Charges against Alvarado, at this time, are pending.

Anyone with information leading to the arrest of Alvarado is asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip by text message to CRIMES (274637), keyword LCTIPS.
