UTEP announces 2027 men’s basketball Mountain West schedule

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- UTEP is set to open a new chapter in men’s basketball, with the Miners announcing their inaugural Mountain West Conference schedule today.

UTEP will begin league play at home, hosting longtime rival New Mexico on January 2nd at the Don Haskins Center before welcoming Wyoming on January 5th.

The Miners will play 18 conference games, facing every Mountain West opponent twice. Once at home and once on the road.

After opening with two home games, UTEP will travel to Air Force on January 9th for its first conference road game before returning home to face Nevada on January 12th.

The Miners’ schedule also features road trips to UNLV and Wyoming in January, followed by trips to New Mexico and Grand Canyon in February.

UTEP will host UC Davis, San Jose State, Grand Canyon, UNLV, Hawai’i and Air Force during the conference season. The March 6th matchup against Air Force will close out the regular season.

The schedule renews several longtime rivalries, including matchups with New Mexico, Hawai’i, Wyoming, Air Force, San Jose State, Nevada and UNLV. UTEP has played New Mexico 143 times, the most meetings against any opponent on its Mountain West schedule.

The Miners will also face two new conference opponents. UTEP has played UC Davis once, in 2007, but has never faced Grand Canyon.

“We’re looking forward to playing these teams again, both at home and on the road,” UTEP head coach Joe Golding said. “And we’re excited to start new rivalries with Grand Canyon and UC Davis.”

The Miners enter the season with a revamped roster featuring 10 impact transfers and four additions from the prep ranks.

Game times and television assignments have not yet been finalized. Several dates could shift based on selections by CBS Sports Network, FOX Sports and The CW.
