Fire destroys at least 4 homes in Chaparral

An afternoon fire spread to four homes Thursday in Chaparral, creating a plume of smoke that could be seen for miles.

It broke out about 4 p.m. on Lisa Drive, near Amparo Road, across from a cemetery.

Deputies with the Doa Ana County Sheriff’s Office were called out to control traffic around a residential area in Chaparral. Deputies from the Otero County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

The Doa Ana County Fire and Emergency Services was called to the 400 block of East Lisa Drive. They were assisted by at least one fire department from El Paso County.

The area is just east of McCombs, between Coles and Amparo Road. Motorists in the area are being asked to clear the way for emergency crews and first responders.

The cause of the fire is unknown. There are no injuries reported at this time.

More information will be sent out as soon as it becomes available.
