ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Storm chances increase with potential for localized flooding

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Storm coverage is expected to increase Saturday, with the best chances initially near and east of the Rio Grande. We're tracking an uptick in monsoon thunderstorm activity across the Borderland this weekend and into Monday as an upper-level low moves across northern Mexico. 

By Sunday, rain and thunderstorm chances are expected to become more widespread across the region before the focus potentially shifts farther west on Monday.

The main concern with stronger storms will be localized heavy rainfall and flash flooding, especially where slow-moving storms or repeated rounds of rain develop.

Looking ahead, a warmer and drier pattern is expected to briefly return Tuesday and Wednesday as high pressure builds west of the region. Temperatures could climb back toward 100 degrees across the lowlands. However, that dry spell may not last long, with weak disturbances potentially bringing increasing rain and thunderstorm chances back later next week.
