ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Widespread thunderstorms possible Sunday with localized flooding

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Sunday tracks another active day of monsoon weather across the Borderland.

Showers and thunderstorms expected to become more widespread across southern New Mexico and Far West Texas. Some storms could produce localized heavy rainfall, with rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches possible in some locations. This could lead to localized flash flooding, especially in areas that see repeated storms. Gusty outflow winds and blowing dust will also be possible across the lowland deserts.

By Monday, thunderstorm chances are expected to shift farther west, with the best chances across the Gila Region, southwestern New Mexico, the Bootheel, and the Sacramento Mountains. However, enough moisture will remain in place for localized heavy rainfall to continue.

Looking ahead, a warmer and drier weather pattern is expected to develop beginning Tuesday as high pressure builds back into the region. Rain chances may begin to improve again toward the end of next week as additional disturbances move closer to the Borderland.
