Flooding temporarily closes Montana Avenue in East El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Heavy rain over the weekend temporarily closed westbound Montana Avenue near Justice Drive and Tierra Este in east El Paso.

The flooding created hazardous driving conditions and forced motorists to take alternate routes.

Police blocked access to the affected section as crews assessed the roadway and worked to clear the water.

Officials are reviewing the drainage system and determining which agency is responsible for maintenance in the area.

Authorities are also investigating whether nearby construction contributed to the flooding.

Drivers are urged to avoid barricades and never attempt to drive through standing or moving water.
