Coronado Tower Arsonist Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison

A judge sentenced the man who pleaded guilty to maliciously starting a fire inside Coronado Tower to 5 years in federal prison.

Kevin Rodriguez, 22, will also have to serve three years of supervised release after he serves his prison sentence. The judge also ordered him to pay restitution.

According to court documents obtained by ABC-7, Rodriguez set rolls of toilet paper on fire in the second floor janitor closet back in April 2013.

A janitor saw what happened, chased Rodriguez, and held him until police arrived.

Damage to the building was estimated at $1 million dollars. Prosecutors say the fire resulted in some of the building tenants closing their business and others having to relocate.
