Funeral services set for brothers killed in DWI crash

The brothers killed after a suspected drunk driver hit them on Christmas eve will be laid to rest this weekend.

Isaiah and Joshua Deal’s funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cielo Vista Church.

Isaiah, 19, and Joshua, 23, had just left their father’s home where they celebrated an early Christmas and were on their way to their mother’s home when they were hit. Joshua’s girlfriend, Shannon del Rio, was also killed.

Police say Joel Garcia was speeding and ran a red light at the corner of Joe Battle and Vista del Sol. A police affidavit states Garcia, a boxer, admitted he drank five beers and two shots before getting behind the wheel.

As Garcia sits in jail, the Deal family has had to plan a funeral for their two sons. Josh, the oldest, was the quiet one, his stepfather Ricardo Cisneros told ABC-7. Isaiah was the one who lit up the room.

“I feel so honored to have known those kids,” Cisneros said. “They want to make me be a better person and the best thing I can do to honor them is to try an be a better person. To live life like they did, to love like they did.”
