ABC-7 StormTrack Weather – EL PASO CONTINUES WITH A ROUND OF TRIPLE-DIGIT HEAT

El Paso is in for another stretch of intense summer heat, with temperatures climbing into the triple digits over the next several days.

A strong area of high pressure will remain parked over the Four Corners today, helping push temperatures to near-record levels for this time of year. El Paso and other lowland communities are expected to reach highs between 100 and 103 degrees.

While the heat will be the main story, a few thunderstorms could develop this afternoon. Most of the storm activity is expected over the higher terrain of the Sacramento Mountains and Gila region.

There is also a small chance for an isolated storm across the lowlands, mainly north of El Paso. Any storms that do develop could produce heavy downpours and localized flooding, especially over the mountains.

By Friday, conditions will be similar, although there will be slightly less moisture available for storms. Thunderstorm chances will once again favor the higher terrain, with a few isolated storms possible across Sierra and northern Doña Ana counties and parts of the Tularosa Basin.

Storm chances will continue to decrease through the weekend. By Saturday, the Gila region could be one of the few areas still seeing isolated storms before drier air moves in.

Meanwhile, temperatures will remain well above average. Highs are expected to run 6 to 12 degrees above normal, with many lowland locations reaching around 100 to 103 degrees.

Some days could bring temperatures close to heat advisory criteria in the El Paso Lower Valley, so staying hydrated, limiting time outdoors during the hottest part of the afternoon and taking frequent breaks from the heat will be especially important.

For now, the forecast is clear: triple-digit heat is sticking around, while rain chances gradually fade into the weekend.
