US Rep. Escobar, El Paso officials to attend Marathon refinery community meeting

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The San Juan Neighborhood Association invited residents to attend a community meeting Wednesday to discuss Marathon Petroleum refinery. The meeting comes three weeks after the refinery released more than 15 tons pollutants, according to environmental reports.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality said an electrical issue caused the Aug. 4 incident. Emissions left some residents in the area with irritated eyes and nausea.

U.S. Congresswoman Veronica Escobar, El Paso County Commissioner David Stout and City Representative Josh Acevedo are all expected to attend the meeting tonight, according to the neighborhood association.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the San Juan Senior Center (5701 Tamburo Ct.), which is near the refinery.
