Video shows ‘smuggling’ chase leading to an attempted gas station carjacking in Fabens

FABENS, Texas (KVIA) - Stunning video showing five individuals fleeing their vehicle, leading to an attempted carjacking in Fabens Thursday morning, has now been released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

It happened at the Speedway gas station near the intersection of I-10 and Fabens Road around 9:16 a.m.

In a social media post made by CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott, he reports that suspected human smugglers were driving more than 100 miles per hour westbound on I-10.

However, after their vehicle was disabled by law enforcement, according to newly released video, the individuals fled the vehicle with one of the suspects carjacking a civilian at gunpoint.

Officials are reporting that the victim did not suffer any serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Agencies that were involved in the chase included U.S. Border Patrol, CBP, HSI and Texas DPS, with DPS officials saying two people have been taken into custody.

As for potential chargers, while ABC-7 could not receive confirmation from Border Patrol or DPS, other outlets are reporting that officials say, "they will face human smuggling and evading arrest or detention charges."

Requests for further information were sent to U.S. Border Patrol and DPS, but no response was received at this time.
