Battle of the helmet returns

The battle of the helmet is back and the history makes every snap mean a little more. For more than six decades, Eastwood and Bel Air have turned this game into more than football.

The football helmet symbolizes bragging rights between these two sides of El Paso that have been battling since 1963. Some people even call it the Ohio State vs Michigan of El Paso. For the first time since 2019 the game returns. Though the Eastwood troopers have been working hard to keep it at home.

There may be new names on the jersey's but the mindset of head coach Julio Lopez hasn't changed. He says

"The history is definitely there, the alumni bases are excited and we just cant be more excited for both schools to finally have the battle of the helmet back."

Eastwood has owned much of this rivalry and Bel Air is hungry to bring it home.

"Being an alumni from this school you know I'm very familiar with the rivalry and the intensity so I try to tell our kids about it as much as I can. I remember when our coaches would tell me when I was a player her about their games in the sun bowl." Said Ariel Famaligi, head coach for Bel Air.

History doesn't win the next game and there's a lot more on the line than a Friday night lights season opener. Both teams putting in the long hours for one trophy, one game and another chapter waiting to be written.

August 28th at Eastwood high school, 7pm kickoff and the first borderland blitz of the season. It's a rivalry you won't want to miss.
