ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Staying hot with a chance for isolated storms through the holiday weekend.

Even with limited storm coverage, there is plenty of moisture available for any storms that do develop.

That means storms could produce very heavy rainfall in a short amount of time. Some locations could pick up more than an inch of rain, and isolated flash flooding will be possible, particularly where storms repeatedly move over the same area.

The best chance for more widespread storm activity may come later tonight. Computer models suggest scattered storms could develop around midnight, with activity becoming more focused across parts of Texas. El Paso and Hudspeth counties could see isolated rainfall totals of more than an inch, along with gusty outflow winds of up to 40 mph.

Saturday stays unsettled

Warmer temperatures well up in the atmosphere will once again limit instability and keep storm intensity somewhat in check. How much cloud cover and lingering showers remain Saturday morning will be important. More clouds would keep temperatures cooler and could limit afternoon thunderstorm development.

For now, isolated storms are expected Saturday, with brief heavy downpours and gusty winds being the primary threats.
