EPFD to unveil UTEP-themed fire truck at 9/11 memorial ceremony

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Fire Department announced Wednesday that it will be unveiling a newly redesigned, UTEP-themed fire truck.

Officials say the community will get its first look at Pumper 8, with UTEP's signature colors and design elements, during the annual September 11 memorial ceremony hosted by The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

The pumper is said to arrive in El Paso this week but will undergo final preparations before officially entering service in late September/early October.

Once placed into service, officials say Pumper 8 will be assigned to Fire Station 8, located at 301 E. Robinson Avenue, just two blocks from the UTEP campus. The newly designed truck will have the same responsibilities as any other truck in the department. EPFD Fire Chief says its distinctive design pays tribute to UTEP and the university’s deep roots in the El Paso community.

“Pumper 8 represents the strong connection between the El Paso Fire Department, UTEP, and the people we are honored to serve,” said El Paso Fire Chief Jonathan Killings. “This apparatus will be there when our community needs us most, and its design reflects the pride we share in this great city and the institutions that make it special.”
