UTEP takes 21-10 halftime lead over Texas Southern in home opener

EL PASO, Texas -- UTEP took a 21-10 lead over Texas Southern into halftime Saturday night in the Miners’ home opener at the Sun Bowl.

The Miners scored 14 points in the second quarter after the teams were tied 7-7 following the opening 15 minutes.

EJ Colson completed 6 of 9 passes for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns in the first half. Kam Thomas led UTEP on the ground with 92 yards and 1 touchdown, while Cash Cheeks follows with 13 yards and 1 touchdown.

UTEP’s defense held Texas Southern to 132 passing yards and 21 points through two quarters.

The Miners are seeking their first win of the season after opening the year with a loss to Oklahoma.
