Volunteers gather at Fort Bliss Cemetery for 9/11 cleanup event

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Borderland residents gathered at Fort Bliss National Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 12, to take part in the one-day nationwide event where organizers say they turned remembrance into action.

Organizers of 9/11 Day of Service & Remembrance say volunteers showed up to clean and restore headstones, as well as clean up the grounds in cemeteries across the U.S.

According to organizers, this act of service is meant to honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, and the military members and first responders who answered the distress call in the days and years that followed.
