UTEP soccer extends winning streak to four games with 2-1 win

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- UTEP soccer remained unbeaten Sunday with a 2-1 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, extending its winning streak to four games.

The Miners improved to 6-0-2, their best start since the 2005 team opened 14-0-1. UTEP also completed an unbeaten road trip and is 3-0-2 away from home.

Zeta McDannels opened the scoring in the ninth minute, finishing a pass from Dannique Wilson. Haylee Lancaster doubled the lead in the 24th minute after stealing the ball from an Islanders defender and scoring on a breakaway.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi answered one minute later on an Olimpico from Emmie Barton, but the Miners' defense held the rest of the way.

UTEP limited the Islanders to just one shot in the second half and none on goal after Barton's score. Savanah Finley made two saves in the victory.

The four-game winning streak is UTEP's first since 2017.

The Miners return to action Thursday at I-10 rival NM State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. MT.
