Miners secure seventh straight victory after Borderland Classic title

EL PASO, Texas -- UTEP volleyball extended its winning streak to seven matches Saturday with a 3-1 win over UC San Diego at Club Memorial.

The Miners improved to 7-1 on the season after winning the Borderland Classic undefeated.

UTEP won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-21 before UC San Diego took the third, 25-22. The Miners responded in the fourth, 25-20, to close out the match.

Luvina Oguntimehin led UTEP with 14 kills and seven blocks, while Daisy Voskuhl added 11 kills. Ema Uskokovic and Mackenzi Davis each had 10 kills.

UTEP hit .336 for the match and held UC San Diego to a .216 hitting percentage. The Miners also held advantages in aces, 7-3, and blocks, 12-5.

The Miners now face a challenging week with two ranked opponents. UTEP travels to TCU on Wednesday before heading to Baylor for matches against UIW on Thursday and the host Bears on Friday.
