Stray dog assists in rescue by jumping in police car, reunited with owner

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Paso Animal Services (EPAS) shared on social media Sunday that a stray dog named Archer helped in his own rescue after he got too close to the Border Freeway.

According to EPAS officials, Animal Protection Officer (APO) Cobo was sent to the Border Freeway area as officers from the El Paso Police Department attempted to secure Archer.

EPAS officials say that as the officers with EPPD tried to get Archer, he jumped into the police vehicle.

Officer Cobo with animal services was able to secure Archer, get him to a safer spot, and scan for a microchip.

EPAS says Archer did have a microchip that had contact information for Archer's family, allowing him to be reunited with his family.
